Life Extension is being touted as a boon to new industries and as a detriment to pension funds. What's the net economic impact of longer lifespans going to be? Only the future will tell; but, assuming that longer life means longer productive years, we most likely will see the utilization of what would otherwise have been a lost opportunity cost to society.
Assuming that health care keeps up with longevity care, one can hardly imagine that people will continue to retire at 65, when they may well live 3 to 5 decades beyond that.
Stories below illustrate the debate.

Anti Aging is becoming a hot topic. More and more posts are coming up regarding the life extension movement. SENS and Aubrey de Grey are not household names yet; but, the day cannot be far off! I've highlighted several stories this week which make the point, life extension is reaching the mainstream. Aubrey, Sanjay Gupta are both quoted. Additionally, Psychology today offers the advice Restrict Calories, Take Resveratol, and Drink Red Wine, hardly complete advice to those who've been paying attention to the research.

It turns out that the difference between sleep for the elderly and the young is not as great as originally thought. Much of the difference is attributable to pain or disease though elderly patients sleep someone lighter and slightly shorter than youth.
