The popular media is beginning to sit up and take note that life expectancies are rising slowly and steadily. In these pages we will discuss many of the different factors contributing to the ultimate inevitability of immortal humans as well as what you can do to join the effort and help out.

Lipoic Acid |

"Researchers have identified the mechanism of action of lipoic acid, a remarkable compound that in animal experiments appears to slow down the process of aging, improve blood flow, enhance immune function and perform many other functions." Article: Lipoic acid appears to slow down the process of aging
Gist: The mechanism of action of an aging factor is elucidated.
In plain English, please: Lipoic gives a boost to various bodily
functions, the activities of which decline with age. What's
implicit in this is obviously that various defenses of the body
"naturally decline with age."
Deception is in the name: We have a very simple name for the
process of dying: "aging." That we have a simple name, however,
does not mean that the process itself is simplistic. Evidence
actually points to the contrary. Evidence suggests instead that
aging is a phenomenon brought about by many biochemical processes and
their interactions - i.e., the net effect of innumerable processes
leads to aging.
Hence: We have proteins like lipoic acid, which is able to "slow
down the process of aging" by jump starting many of the systems that
fail during aging.
But: Lipoic acid does not lead to living forever. True
immortality is a pipe dream. Sorry to have to say it so frankly =p

Nice post! :)
Here is one area where Ran and I differ. No one will ever need more than 640 kb of memory is a pretty famous quote by one of the great visionaries of our century. One can reference from this how poorly human beings are at extrapolating exponential processes with our linearly focused brains. :) Anyways, nice post, thought provoking bit of research.
